Colt Data Centre Services (Colt DCS), a UK-based company providing hyperscale and large enterprise solutions, has launched its first data centre in India.
The 60,000m² Navi Mumbai data centre will provide cloud migration, mobile internet and rapid digitalisation services and boasts a 220-kilovolt gas-insulated substation.
In addition, the company plans to invest $375m (£307.46m) to open a new unit in Chennai, southern India, and spend a further $750m on scaling up its two data centres in the country. The Chennai unit will offer 120MW spread across 4.05 hectares and will be operational in the next two years.
Colt DCS’s Navi Mumbai centre will have an initial capacity of 22MW, which will be gradually scaled up to 120MW.
“We are now uniquely placed in the Mumbai market to address the demand of hyperscale cloud service providers and large enterprises, particularly from the banking and financial services industry,” said Pratap Mane, country head of India at Colt DCS. “The first phase of the Mumbai data centre has commenced with 22MW and an available capacity of 18MW of IT power capacity. Furthermore, we have aggressive plans to expand into major cities across India to cater to growing market demand.”
In 2022, India became the dominant market for foreign direct investment (FDI) job creation, surpassing China, which saw its economic recovery slow down due to low consumer spending, despite lifting Covid-19 restrictions.
