US materials science company Corning has opened a new Digital & IT Centre in the Indian city of Pune, Maharashtra.

The newly established global capability centre is intended to further the company’s IT capabilities through expertise in “supply chain, data, cyber, and other digital areas.” Around 100 new positions will be recruited over the next 24 months. The centre will support Corning’s regional and global growth strategies.

The new centre is located close to the existing Corning Research Centre India, the work of which is focussed on regional needs for environmental technologies, telecommunications and life sciences businesses.

Soumya Seetharam, senior vice president and chief digital and information officer at Corning, said: “As Corning expands its expertise in key areas of digital innovation, we see great potential in India – and in Pune in particular. For our team in India, the sky is the limit. We’re seeking to hire top talent to support our technologies while giving them opportunities to grow in their roles and careers.”

In the last 24 months, Corning has formed a joint venture with SGD Pharma to build a new glass-tubing factory and built its Wireless India Development Centre to assist Indian and international businesses in implementing 5G technology.
