US-based digital infrastructure provider Equinix has opened a new hyperscale xScale data centre in Osaka, Japan.
Covering 4,926sqm, ‘OS4x’ is the company’s fourth data centre in the city and is aimed at expanding its capacity in the region to meet the growing needs of cloud service providers.
The facility has a total power capacity of 14.4MW, with chillers and pipes in each data hall to support liquid cooling.
Kuniko Ogawa, president and CEO of Equinix Japan, said: “We are pleased to be able to provide environments and services tailored to the needs of hyperscale companies and support the creation of innovations in the Osaka area. We are also confident that by providing timely support for the expansion of businesses in Japan in response to AI demand, we will underpin society’s digital vision and indirectly accelerate the digital business of companies. We will continue to accelerate the expansion of xScale data centres to support the strategies of hyperscale companies.”
Equinix has 17 xScale data centers globally with more such facilities planned to open in 2024. The TY15 data centre in Tokyo will open in September 2024.
Headquartered in the US state of California, Equinix operates around 260 data centres in over 30 countries. It has around 13,000 employees globally.
