US life science and clinical research company Thermo Fisher Scientific has opened an electron microscopy demo facility in Taiwan.

The centre, the company’s first in the country, is aimed at helping to support next-generation semiconductor innovation and materials research and development.

Thermo Fisher Scientific says the so-called NanoPort is located at the centre of the region’s semiconductor production industry “to meet the area’s growing need for advanced analytical instruments and expertise”.

Through the centre, the company will collaborate with local semiconductor partners, with customers having access to technologies for materials analysis, process control, and quality assurance and electron microscopy specialists. It will also provide practical experiences to support basic research efforts. It becomes one of six Thermo Fisher NanoPort sites globally.

Sho-Wen Yeo, vice president and general manager for Southeast Asia and Taiwan at Thermo Fisher Scientific, said: “Thermo Fisher’s new NanoPort in Taiwan underscores our continuous commitment to the advancement of science and technology worldwide, By bringing Thermo Fisher’s world-class analytical instrumentation and expertise to the semiconductor hotspot that is Taiwan, we aim to serve as the go-to R&D partner in the region and enable our customers to propel the innovations that shape our everyday lives.”
