French energy management and automation company Schneider Electric will invest $55m (£42m) in a new manufacturing site in Scarborough, North Yorkshire, UK.
The new facility aims to meet the growing demand for electrical equipment to support the UK’s clean energy transition. It is situated at the Scarborough Business Park and will create 200 new jobs.
Schneider Electric’s new facility, spanning 16500sqm, is nearly three times larger than its existing site in the region. It intends to become a net-zero plant by maximising the use of renewable energy. The scheduled opening is in early 2025.
Kelly Becker, president at Schneider Electric, UK & Ireland, Belgium & Netherlands said, “We’re proud to be investing in and developing innovative solutions which will deliver immediate and lasting decarbonisation in the UK while bolstering the creation of local, green jobs in Yorkshire.”
“The region has long been part of our operational presence in the UK. We’re excited to expand this as part of our commitment to investing in the UK’s green economy. The new facility in Scarborough represents a pillar of innovation in net-zero and one which will be an industry benchmark for the transition to sustainable, energy-efficient buildings.”
The Scarborough investment adds to its recent $8.7m (£7.2m) facility upgrade in Leeds, announced in October 2023. The company will create more than 300 cumulative jobs in Yorkshire spread across both facilities.
