US-based electronics manufacturer Jabil is planning to set up a production plant in Tiruchirapalli, in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. The company, a supplier of Apple, plans to invest $238.19m in the manufacturing facility.
The agreement was formalized in Chicago, with Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister MK Stalin, underscoring the state’s initiative to attract foreign investment.

The investment will enhance the economy of the central area, establishing a fresh center for the production of electronic goods in Tamil Nadu.
The plant will create close to 5,000 jobs reaffirming the state’s status as a center for electronics manufacturing. Aside from being a supplier to Apple, Jabil also supplies to the American technology company Cisco, computer maker HP, and others.
Recently, Tamil Nadu has seen a spike in electronics exports, primarily due to the rise in iPhone exports.
The tech-heavy state has also signed an agreement with Rockwell Automation to expand manufacturing to Tamil Nadu with an investment worth $79.32m, creating 365 jobs.
