Maryland-based Marriott International, a multinational hotel service provider, has announced the launch of its first Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Hyderabad, India.

The centre will be fully operational in early 2025. It aims to capitalize on the local tech talent to strengthen Marriott’s global technology infrastructure and operations. At a press briefing featuring government officials and business executives, Sridhar Babu, Telangana’s IT Minister, urged Marriott leadership to explore the development of alternative operations like hotels and tech centres across other tier-2 cities in the state.

Drew Pinto, executive vice president and chief revenue and technology officer of Marriott International said, “We have chosen to establish the Marriott Tech Accelerator in Hyderabad because of its world-class talent and strong reputation as a major IT hub in India.”

The Minister also highlighted the state’s tech credentials and said there are already “over 200 GCCs driving business transformation.” He added that Telanga’s “talent pool includes over 1 million GCC-ready tech professionals and 350,000 AI and Chip designers, with an influx of 250,000 engineers.”

The establishment of the GCC is part of Hyderabad’s strategic vision to attract similar investments and solidify Telangana’s position as a global tech leader.

Telangana has emerged as a major tech hub in India, home to over 300 artificial intelligence (AI) startups, 12 data centres, and an AI Centre of Excellence (CoE). Further securing the state’s place in India’s deep tech talent ecosystem will be the 200-acre AI City.
