Portuguese PET manufacturer Evertis Iberica, part of Portugal-based IMG Group, has announced plans for a new production plant in Columbia, South Carolina, US.
Evertis will invest around $100m in the new site. Its operational launch is scheduled for Q2 2026, with commercial sales to customers anticipated to follow within that year. Furthermore, it will create more than 100 full-time jobs in the region.
Phase one of the project will contribute 30,000t of new production capacity to the North American packaging sector, strengthening the regional value chain. Additionally, a planned second phase, scheduled for Q2 2028, will augment capacity by an additional 30,000t, culminating in a total production capacity of 60,000t.
Evertis’s US expansion is a strategic move to solidify its North American market position and foster direct collaboration with global brand leaders to promote sustainable packaging on a larger scale.
Thomaz Gruber, executive vice president of operations of Evertis USA, noted that the new site will result in shorter lead times while reducing supply chain risks. It will also help better align production with the increasing market demand for packaging.
Dan Kearny, chief business officer of IMG Group added, “As we expand in the US, our focus is on delivering packaging solutions that help our customers minimize their environmental footprint. With localized production, we can better support their goals for reducing life cycle impacts.”
Earlier in 2023, Evertis added new plants in Italy and Mexico.
