American aerospace giant Collins Aerospace has opened a new Engineering Development and Test Centre (EDTC) in Bengaluru, India at an investment of $25m.
The 4645sqm facility is equipped with broad testing to ensure aerospace systems meet global safety and performance standards. These include simulations of harsh operating conditions such as extreme temperatures and electromagnetic interference. Completing safety checks locally allows Collins Aerospace to identify and address potential issues earlier in the development process.
According to Clay Lindwall, senior vice president of engineering and technology at Collins Aerospace, “the new test facility will enable faster certification of aerospace components, including ‘Made-in-India’ parts, by global aviation regulators. This move is expected to enhance manufacturing capabilities and reduce costs by eliminating the need to send products abroad for testing and approval.”
“This centre will serve as a hub for testing and qualifying aerospace systems, including thrust reverser actuators, cabin lighting, and evacuation slides, ensuring we meet the evolving demands of modern aviation,” he added.
Savyasachi Srinivas, vice president of global engineering & technology centres, said: “This investment brings advanced testing capabilities closer to where engineering and manufacturing happen and recognises the country’s strategic importance in the global supply chain.”
With the new EDT centre, the company reaffirms its commitment to investing in India and enhancing its role as a global aerospace innovation hub.
Collins Aerospace, a subsidiary of RTX Corp, designs and delivers aerospace and defence solutions. It operates in Africa, Europe, Asia Pacific, the Middle East and the Americas with around 80,000 employees globally.
