Sweden-based Sigma Software Group, a multinational provider of IT services, has expanded its presence in Romania by establishing an engineering base.

This move reinforces the company’s position in Europe and connects it with the region’s engineering talent, aligning with the company’s global expansion strategy.

The centre will strengthen existing relationships with companies from the European Union (EU) and further develop the company’s partnership network in the Central and Eastern European region.

The company now has over 40 offices in more than 20 countries worldwide.

While Sigma Software currently has 20 employees in Romania, the company plans to hire over 100 professionals between 2025 and 2026, expanding its engineering operations to meet client demand.

Alyona Nesterenko, head of Sigma Software OptiCo, said: “Global customers require a global presence. Today, Romania is one of the top emerging tech countries. With a business-friendly environment and a dynamic tech ecosystem, Romania is the perfect place for Sigma Software to expand our engineering capabilities.”

Valery Krasovsky, CEO and co-founder of Sigma Software Group added: “As we prepare for this exciting new chapter, our focus remains on attracting top talent, building a strong local presence, and fostering collaboration within the Romanian tech ecosystem.”

Sigma Software aims to engage with the local tech community through events, workshops, and industry meetups, establishing Romania as a centre of excellence for the company’s key service lines and strategic projects.

Since joining the EU in 2007, Romania has emerged as a popular destination for IT outsourcing among global companies. Notable organizations such as Hewlett-Packard, Huawei, Ericsson, Siemens, Oracle, and Gameloft have established a presence there. Nearly 20% of the country’s tech professionals work in the research and development sector.

Sigma Software has been focusing on cooperation with startups, software product houses, and enterprises since 2002. Currently, over 2,000 specialists at the company collaborate with more than 350 customers worldwide.
