Porsche Engineering, a technology service provider and subsidiary of Germany-based Porsche, has opened a new tech location in Timisoara. The new Timisoara facility is the company’s second in Romania, following the 2016 establishment of its Cluj-Napoca operations, and strengthens its network of innovation centres. The company initially plans to hire 50 staff this year, increasing its headcount to 200 software development and testing specialists in the medium term. The site will primarily focus on high-tech automotive projects including machine learning, automated driving functions and virtual energy management.
Dirk Lappe, chief technology officer of Porsche Engineering, explains why the company has chosen Romania for this investment: “The tech activities of Porsche Engineering in Romania have been a great success story so far. The consistent growth with highly skilled function and software specialists in Cluj-Napoca motivated us to consider expanding to a second Romanian location.”
Porsche also plans to take advantage of the country’s academic capabilities by collaborating with the West University of Timisoara and Timisoara Polytechnical University on upcoming projects.
