Luxury fashion company Fendi, a subsidiary of France-based LVMH, has opened a new production and development facility for leather goods in Capannuccia near Florence, Italy.
The 30,000m2 factory is located on an eight-hectare site and represents an investment of €50m ($48.8m) – the highest amount ever invested by Fendi in a single site in Italy. The facility was designed to be as sustainable as possible and is surrounded by a large park with 700 olive trees, which will produce 900 litres of olive oil annually.
The company plans to create 350 new jobs by the end of 2022 and expects to employ 700 staff at the site by 2025. The factory houses all stages of bag and leather goods production, offices, a canteen and a training centre.
The opening follows the expansion of Fendi’s shoe factory in the Marche region of Italy in early October 2022. The company invested €12m to move its existing operations in Porto San Giorgio to a new site in Fermo.
The new 7,000m2 factory features production, office and warehouse space and is equipped with solar panels. The site is expected to eventually employ 300 staff, compared with the 120 who worked at the previous location.
