JHB1, which covers an area of more than 10.3 hectares is situated in Johor Bahru, the southernmost point of the Malay Peninsula. With an end-to-end cross-border connection strategy, the data center, provides robust local and international connectivity to neighboring Singapore and other regional technology hubs.

AirTrunk Founder & Chief Executive Officer Robin Khuda said, “With a commitment to innovation and sustainable growth, combined with a program of investment in energy availability and renewable electricity, Malaysia is fast becoming a key tech hub in the Asia Pacific & Japan region.”

Khuda also highlighted their interest in implementing “groundbreaking solutions like liquid cooling, at scale, in order to catalyse sustainable cloud and AI development.”

The Australian data center specialist worked with Malaysian utility company Tenaga National Behand to connect JHB1. Throughout the process, accelerating the energy transition and supporting energy reliability was a main focal point. This follows a 2023 agreement to work together to help advance the energy transition in the area.

In February, AirTrunk announced the first Virtual Power Purchase Agreement for renewable energy for a data center with 30MW with developer ib vogt. The deal is happening under Malaysia’s Corporate Green Power Program, a government initiative incentivizing the creation and usage of renewable energy.

JHB1 is a part of AirTrunk’s premier data center platform for Asia Pacific and Japan, which consists of 11 facilities with a combined capacity of over 1.4 gigawatts to meet the region’s demand from international technology companies.
