Swedish industrial equipment manufacturer Atlas Copco has unveiled its new 25,000sqm manufacturing facility in Talegaon, Pune, India.
Initially announced in August 2023, Atlas Copco’s new facility represents an investment of around $17m. It will reportedly generate employment opportunities for over 200 people.
The site will manufacture air and gas compressor systems for local and international markets. These include compressed natural gas, biogas, and hydrogen compressors. It will also produce air dryers, N2 and O2 generators and medical filters.
Atlas Copco’s Talegaon plant, built with Industry 4.0 in mind, prioritizes sustainability. Its 1.3-megawatt rooftop installation aims for 80% solar energy use. The plant also incorporates rainwater collection and efficient cooling methods.
Philippe Ernens, president of the compressor technique business area, emphasized the facility’s advanced technology, which will boost local supply, shorten lead times, and expand capacity.
“This enables us to offer a wider range of products, meet market expectations, and provide better lifecycle support,” he added.
Thierry Monart, vice president and managing director of Atlas Copco (India) said, “This facility strengthens our commitment to localisation while also driving job creation and boosting skill development in the region.”
This facility adds to Atlas Copco’s growing international presence. According to GlobalData’s data insight report, it ranked second in making international expansions in the industrial machinery, equipment and tools sector between 2019 and 2024.
Headquartered in the Swedish city of Stockholm, Atlas Copco has over 55,000 employees globally. Furthermore, it has manufacturing units in India, Sweden, Germany, the US, South Korea, Belgium, China, Canada, and the UK among others.
