California based biopharmaceutical giant Amgen, one of the world’s biggest biotech companies, is expanding into India.
It announced plans to open a technology and innovation site in HITEC City, a suburb of Hyderabad. The site can accommodate up to 3,000 people and will be operational in Q4 of 2024.
Hyderabad is a popular destination for FDI. The Telangana region has received $3bln worth of FDI in the financial year 2024.
Amgen selected Hyderabad for its skilled workforce across medicine, life sciences, data sciences and its growing AI sector.
David Reese, Amgen’s executive vice president and chief technology officer, explains that this expansion fits into Amgen’s long-term goals:
“At a time when a quickly ageing population needs more innovation, the convergence of biotechnology and technology is enabling Amgen to work with greater speed, confidence and, efficiency—an incredibly exciting milestone for which we have been preparing for over a decade.”
