Canada-based software company BlackBerry has opened a new engineering and innovation ‘Center of Excellence’ (CoE) for its IoT (Internet of Things) division in Hyderabad, India.
The 2,787m2 facility currently houses 60 members, with plans to double the workforce within the coming year. With a capacity to host 180–200 tech professionals, the CoE is set to become the key Asia-Pacific hub for the Blackberry QNX global developer network. Notably, BlackBerry’s QNX software is integrated into over 235 million vehicles worldwide.
Furthermore, the facility is strategically designed to enhance mission-critical embedded software development for IoT industries. The CoE will focus on the development of software for the next generation of software-defined vehicles, as well as drive innovation in medical applications, industrial control systems, and robotics.
According to Mattias Eriksson, BlackBerry IoT president, “India is an important market for our customers in automotive and other IoT sectors and widely recognised as a nation of talented software engineers with a thriving innovation ecosystem.
“We are proud to open the doors to the BlackBerry IoT Center of Excellence, Engineering, and Innovation in Hyderabad today, both to enhance product and service delivery for our customers and partners and to create opportunities for India’s talented software engineers in an increasingly complex and software-defined era for embedded IoT development.”
The new facility also marks the introduction of BlackBerry’s new initiative, QNX Everywhere, in India. Leveraging QNX development tools, the company strives to enhance the community of proficient embedded systems developers in India and globally.
