German carmaker BMW is set to open a major new facility in the Ostrava region of Czechia, it has been reported.
The ‘BMW Park’ will be used mainly for logistics operations and handling large shipping containers, according to Expats.cz. These functions will be supported by the site’s proximity to a nearby railway line and to Ostrava Airport, with it reportedly to be located in the industrial zone of Mošnov.

Citing developers working on the project, the outlet said that the new facility will create around 500 new jobs.
The development will continue BMW’s expansion in Czechia, with the company having opened a test centre in Karlovy Vary last year. Described by BMW at the time as “the first development location of its kind in central Europe”, that €300m site is intended to play a major role in the company’s future mobility plans and is used primarily for helping to develop automated driving technologies.
