UK-based aircraft and aero-engine manufacturer GKN Aerospace has opened a new additive manufacturing (AM) facility in Trollhattan, Sweden.
GKN Aerospace invested around $55m (£50m) in the facility, which will reportedly create 150 new jobs. The facility, first announced in January 2024, has been co-located at its existing site in the region.

GKN has also received around $13m (£12m) from the government as part of the Swedish Energy Agency’s Industriklivet initiative.
The facility will move towards a more sustainable production method by reducing raw material usage by up to 80%. It will utilise additive technology to minimise waste, energy consumption, and shipping requirements.
Joakim Andersson, president of GKN Aerospace’s Engines business, appreciated the government’s support for this new facility. He said it was “pivotal in enabling us to push our capabilities forward.”
Peter Engdahl, head of research, innovation and business development at the Swedish energy agency added, “GKN Aerospace’s solution will be able to contribute to a reduced use of raw materials and create opportunities to fundamentally change the design, making the aircraft engine lighter and more efficient.”
