Daikin Industries, a Japanese manufacturer of air conditioners, has inaugurated a new research and development (R&D) centre in Neemrana, Rajasthan, India.
First announced in August 2022, Daikin has invested around $58.29m (INR500 Crores) in the new site. Spanning 24,000sqm, the facility aims to address the rising export demand from overseas markets. Furthermore, it will create around 500 new jobs.
Boasting 22 testing laboratories and a 600 tons of refrigeration (TR) air-cooled chiller test lab (among the nation’s largest), this facility will develop a comprehensive portfolio of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVACR) solutions. Additionally, its strategic co-location with the Neemrana manufacturing unit facilitates strong synergy and improved productivity.
Naofumi Takenaka, president & COO of Daikin Industries, highlighted the significance of the Indian market.
“The rationale behind setting up this R&D centre is to invest in technologies that suit domestic and foreign conditions and build products as per the demands of consumers,” he said.
K.J. Jawa, chairman and managing director of Daikin India, stated that the new centre will be instrumental in positioning Daikin as a pioneer in the Indian market.
“With this investment, Daikin has taken a forward-looking step by building comprehensive R&D capabilities. It has also strengthened India’s role as a dependable manufacturing and export hub,” he added.
This latest investment bolsters the company’s growing presence in the Indian market. Last month in March, Daikin India also opened a new centre of excellence in Goa.
According to GlobalData insights, Daikin Industries was the most prolific at making international expansions in the industrial machinery, equipment and tools sector between Q1 2019 and Q1 2024. Additionally, in the past year, the company announced investments in Cambodia, Belgium, Australia, New Zealand, Ivory Coast, and Denmark.
