German logistics company, DHL has opened a new e-commerce hub at SEGRO Park in Coventry, UK. The 25,000sqm facility, located south of Coventry Airport, aims to support the growth of domestic and international e-commerce for UK businesses.

The company has invested $290.82m in the facility, creating up to 600 local jobs.

DHL eCommerce CEO Pablo Ciano and Business Minister Justin Madders formally opened the hub.

DHL claims that the facility, which can process up to a million packages per day, is a component of a larger $609.47m investment in the UK. The hub aims to speed up delivery times for UK consumers.

Stuart Hill, CEO of DHL eCommerce UK, said: “As e-commerce continues to shape the way we live and work, this expansion will enable us to meet growing demand. Our investment reflects our confidence in British business and our dedication to helping our customers thrive in the digital marketplace through innovation and best-in-class service delivery.”

He added, “By increasing our capacity with a state-of-the-art operation, we are creating long-term jobs, growth opportunities for our customers, and a blueprint for more sustainable logistics.”

In addition, the hub has 7,000sqm of solar panels, LED lighting, and EV charging stations. DHL says this will contribute to the UK government’s goal of making the country a clean energy superpower.
