Duravit, a Germany-based manufacturer of porcelain bathroom fittings, has announced plans to invest $90m (€81.92m) to establish the world’s first climate-neutral ceramic production facility in Matane, a town in the Canadian province of Quebec. The project will create 240 jobs, and the facility will manufacture ceramic sanitary ware products such as WCs and washbasins. Operations are scheduled to begin in early 2025.
The project has been supported with a loan of $19m (C$25.51m) by Canada Economic Development’s Regional Economic Growth through Innovation programme. In addition, the government of Quebec is granting a loan of $11m through its Essor programme, managed by Investissement Québec as its representative. The plant will be the first Duravit production site active in North America.
