Pratt & Whitney Canada, a regional subsidiary of the RTX-owned US aerospace manufacturer, has begun the construction of a new manufacturing facility in Casablanca, Morocco.

Spanning over 12,000sqm, Pratt & Whitney Maroc (PWM) will produce detailed static and structural machined parts for the company’s aircraft engines. It is expected to create 200 new jobs locally by 2030.

PWM is intended to complement the company’s current manufacturing sites and supply chain, as well as to help secure parts to meet the strong global customer demand.

Maria Della Posta, president of Pratt & Whitney Canada, said: “We selected Morocco after a careful global benchmarking effort that pointed to Casablanca’s growing hub of aerospace companies including RTX’s Collins Aerospace. Since the announcement of this significant investment less than a year ago, Pratt & Whitney Morocco has made rapid progress in hiring an initial cohort of local employees and working closely with local schools, agencies and the business community to achieve our goal of being fully operational next year.”

Ryad Mezzour, Minister of Industry and Trade of Morocco, added: “Today, we are witnessing the completion of this great project from Pratt & Whitney with the laying of the first stone. The giant’s decision to invest in Morocco shows once again investors’ confidence in the Moroccan industrial platform and its competitiveness.”

Earlier this year, Pratt & Whitney expanded its Eagle Services Asia engine centre in Singapore and also opened a new India Digital Capability Centre.
