US-based social news aggregator Reddit has opened a new office in the Mitte neighbourhood of Berlin, Germany. Germany is home to Reddit’s fifth-largest user base, with 47% user growth year-over-year. German users contribute a total of 151 million posts, comments and votes on the platform monthly.
The company has hired local staff across sales, operations, community, product and engineering. The team will focus on growing more German communities and enabling German advertisers to connect with its users.
Reddit global president and executive vice-president of advertising Harold Klaje commented: “The German advertising market is significant to our global sales strategy and a key part of our international growth plan. While we have been fortunate to enjoy steady organic growth in the country and have seen this attract advertisers in Germany, Reddit’s official market entry will accelerate our existing momentum in a more focused way.”
The Berlin office opening follows Reddit’s expansions into Sydney and Toronto earlier in 2021.
