California-based Sledgehammer Games has opened a new studio in Guildford, UK, as part of a wider global expansion plan. The company has recently completed worldwide hiring campaigns, expanding its studios in Melbourne, Australia, in 2019 and Toronto, Canada, in 2021.

Sledgehammer Games is hiring for a range of roles including audio, production, animation, engineering, user experience and user interface design. Liz Wyle, general manager of Sledgehammer Games Guilford, explained that the company chose the location due to the skilled workforce in the area. “Guildford has a long history of video game development, and as a result there is a lot of top-tier talent and an existing game development community there and in the surrounding towns. We are also an easy reverse commute in from London, which has a huge talent pool.”

Andy Wilson, the company’s chief operating officer, said in a company press release: “I am really excited to bring our studio brand to the UK, along with the incredible franchise we get to work on. It is another opportunity to do our own small part to grow the industry, in a place where there is a huge number of talented developers. As we have done in our other locations, we will be looking to build partnerships with schools and universities to help nurture and grow the next generation of talent.”

Sledgehammer Games was founded in 2009 and is headquartered in Foster City, California. The company is best known for the development of Call of Duty, Advanced Warfare and Call of Duty WWII.
