German pharmaceutical company Stada Arzneimittel has opened a new production facility in Turda, Romania.
Initially announced in late 2022, Stada’s new hub represents an investment of around $75m (€70m). It occupies 100,000 sqm in the Aries Industrial Park with room for further expansion.
The site will bolster European medicine supply security by operating a supply-chain hub capable of delivering over 150 million packs annually. The new facility prioritizes sustainability, utilizing eco-friendly packaging and renewable energy sources.
The facility will supply prescription medicines such as antidepressants, antihistamines, and anti-inflammatory agents. In addition to its core offerings, the site will also produce a diverse range of consumer healthcare products.
Miguel Pagan, chief technical officer of Stada said, “Amid the ongoing discussions about how best to secure a sustainable supply of critical medicines in Europe, STADA is proud to make this major EU investment that will help to ensure patients can access the medicines they need.”
Mihai Fugarevici, general manager of Stada Romania stated that the new facility has created 400 new jobs. He added that the new site enhances Stada’s capacity “to deliver quality healthcare products throughout Europe.”
