Montréal International (MI) is a non-profit organization that is financed by the private sector, the governments of Canada and Québec, the Montréal Metropolitan Community and the City of Montréal. Its mandate is to attract direct foreign investment, international organizations, entrepreneurs, talented workers and international students to the region.
Since its creation in 1996, the organisation has contributed to building Greater Montréal’s international reputation and prosperity by acting as a driving force for economic development. MI has contributed to attracting foreign direct investment projects valued at $18bn, leading to the creation or maintenance of 71,000 jobs. We have also played a key role in the decisions of nearly half of the city’s 67 international organisations to establish themselves here, as well as in attracting and retaining strategic international talent to the tune of more than 11,000 people. Our team consists of 80 professionals with specialised expertise, including in the divisions of Talent Montréal (attracting international talent) and I choose Montréal (attracting and retaining international students). At a time of growing competition among large cities, Montréal International is succeeding in promoting the city’s key sectors. In recognition of these efforts, our organisation clinched the title of second-best investment promotion agency, tied with London & Partners and behind the New York City Economic Development Corporation, from the Financial Times fDi Strategy Awards 2021.
