By GlobalDataAccording to Ed McLaughlin, Mastercard’s president and chief technology officer, “the new Pune Tech Hub will collaborate with other hubs around the world to build the revolutionary technologies that shape our world, powering economies to make everyday life happen.”
He added that the new development was a “testament to Mastercard’s enduring commitment to empowering India, furthering its digital ambitions, and nurturing the immense talent in the country.”
Mastercard launched operations in Pune in 2014 which have since focused on digital identification, fraud detection, cybersecurity and payment safety. The new campus will enhance the company’s capacity to deliver technological solutions for India’s domestic market. Some key initiatives include the financial inclusion platform Community Pass and a biometric tokenization system for secure online checkouts called Payment Passkey Service. The company is also an authorized Authentication Service Agency, allowing banking and government partners to offer Aadhaar-based services and benefits.
Gautam Aggarwal, Mastercard’s South Asia division president, said India was “strategically important” for the company and that the “Pune Tech Hub is a significant milestone in our growth strategy and further support for the government’s digitization efforts.”
The new location is intended to strengthen collaboration between India’s thriving tech sector and Mastercard’s international staff.
