California-based image sharing and social media company Pinterest has opened a new office in Mexico City and plans to hire more than 50 staff by the end of 2021. This will be Pinterest’s second Latin American office following the opening of its branch in São Paulo, Brazil in 2014 and features the company’s first Latin American engineering hub.

Pinterest plans to hire engineers of all types for the new team including specialists in internal tooling and front end engineering for iOS, Android and Web. The company praised Mexico City’s strong talent pool of engineers, particularly in back end and Android skill sets, and the world-class computer science programme at Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México.

In a press release, Jeremy King, head of engineering, stated: “We are thrilled to open opportunities to engineers in Mexico City, with skills uniquely matched to our needs as a visual discovery engine. Our new engineering office in Mexico City will not only help Pinterest access world-class engineering and machine learning talent but will also contribute to the technology community in Mexico.”

The new office will allow the company to work more closely with businesses in Mexico and across Hispanic Latin America in industries such as retail, home, food, fashion, beauty and tech.
